Andrea Lai of Climate Ground Zero will be speaking about the campaign of
non-violent direct action in West Virginia against mountaintop removal in
Appalachia.
"Climate Ground Zero uses a variety of tactics, from rallies and marches
and sit-ins to lockdowns to mining equipment and tree-sits. We work to
raise awareness and bring publicity to the issue of mountaintop removal
Author and Activist Antonia Juhasz will be giving a talk on The Tyranny of Oil, climate policy talks in Copenhagen and the "petroleum-powered smoke screen"

Scott Parkin from Rainforest Action Network and Rising Tide North America will be discussing the direct action campaign in southern West Virginia and other parts of Appalachia currently being waged to end mountaintop removal.
Mountaintop removal is a form of strip mining that literally explodes the tops off of mountains to get at seams of coal.
