 Lawrence Sampson\, a former member of South East Texas American Indian Movement and long time supporter of the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee\, will be giving an update about Peltier's legal\, health and prison situation.</p>
 <p>Peltier was recently denied parole\, but his defense fund is actively seeking for his release by way of executive clemency.</p>

 <p>Melissa Forbis will speak about the Zapatistas and their ongoing indigenous autonomy process in Chiapas\, Mexico.  She will focus on the concrete results of the struggle\, with a special focus women's rights.  Her talk will also address the continued threats of militarization and global<br />
 capitalism on the movement. </p>
 <p>Melissa M. Forbis has worked with the EZLN since 1996.  She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Rice University and holds a PhD in social anthropology from UT Austin.</p>
